Liechtenstein is a constitutional hereditary monarchy based on a democratic-parliamentary foundation. This means that the position and responsibilities of the prince are defined in the constitution, and he, together with the parliament elected by the people (= Landtag), decides on laws.

The Landtag (Parliament) is elected by the people of Liechtenstein. The Landtag consists of 25 members. Together with the prince, the Landtag forms the legislature. The Landtag participates in the legislation and deals with state treaties. It oversees the entire state administration.

The government is the highest executive body in Liechtenstein. It implements what is stated in various laws. The government consists of 5 members: a head of government and 4 councilors.
